HOWL, a classic poem written in San Francisco around 1955 by the iconic Gay Jewish Beat poet, Allen Ginsberg, is also now a brilliant film starring James Franco. Opening in SF, Berkeley & NYC this Shabbat (folks outside of our most populated Gay Jewish areas will have to wait until at least October 1 to see it).
Sure, I already saw HOWL in June at Frameline LGBT Film Festival, and loved it but because it was so good, I want to see it again! Bay Area friends and lovers of Gay Jewish film who wants to see HOWL this weekend? I have a few tickets to the opening night show on Friday, September 24, 7:30pm and want to share! Maybe a Shabbat dinner or drink can be involved too? Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested!
HOWL certainly is a local favorite already and…the Gay Jewish filmmakers, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, will be at the theatre in person, to meet you on Friday! These two local gay Jewish Directors received a 1990 Oscar for “Common Threads: Stories From the Quilt” and they directed “Paragraph 175” together, which documents Nazi persecution of homosexuals. Will HOWL be next to receive an award? I am sure of it.

here O victory forget your underwear we’re
I’m with you in Rockland
in my dreams you walk dripping from a sea-
journey on the highway across America in tears
to the door of my cottage in the Western night”
